Icon sources and trademarks

Where the icons come from, and whose they are.

Icons in Discover are each website’s or brand’s own mark, shown only to help you recognise it. They don’t mean the brand takes part in SeekHop or endorses it.

Whose icons they are

Every icon, name and logo in the directory belongs to its owner. SeekHop claims none of them, and showing one here gives neither you nor us any right to use it otherwise.

Where we get them

  • The website’s own pages: icons declared for browsers and phones
  • Public brand-mark collections: logos-apps, svgl and gilbarbara/logos
  • The website’s own App Store app, only when the developer address is the website’s own
  • Free logo services that return a brand’s logo from its web address

The collections and their licences

Each collection has its own open-source licence. A licence covers the collection, not the trademarks of the brands inside it. Sources:

  • logos-apps (MIT licence)
  • svgl (MIT licence)
  • gilbarbara/logos (CC0, public domain)

How a picture is chosen

Pictures are checked before they appear. A website’s own icon is used when it’s sharp enough; a picture from a collection or the App Store is used only once it’s confirmed to be the same brand. We only resize and centre it in a square tile, never change how it looks. When no good picture is found, a plain letter tile is shown.

If you speak for a brand

If you speak for a brand and want its icon changed, or do not want it shown in SeekHop, write to [email protected] with the website address and what you would like. We reply within 5 working days. If the request is valid, we take the icon down and the directory shows a plain letter tile instead.
